Gary Combs Wins 2007 WCCC Event # 7 at LACR!

06/09/07 - Gary Combs (silver 2003 C5) won event #7 of the 2007 West Coast Corvette Challenge against runner-up Dave Dowdell (red 2003 C5) at Los Angeles County Raceway. The final had a .035 margin of victory with Gary running a 14.344 on a 14.29 dial and a slightly better RT to Dave's 13.465 on a 13.43 dial.

It was a beautiful day in the high desert. We shared the track with Team LACR, Pontiac Drag Days, and some test and tune. We had good traction, no spills, and no accidents. The motocross track next door was closed and nobody at the gravel company was working on our side of the track, so we had no dust and sand blowing around. By the time we ran our final at 2pm, it was 91 degrees. At the track altitude of 2,710 feet, 10% humidity and 29.76 barometric pressure we had a DA of 5556.

Robert Piroumian (2004 C5 SC) was the semi-finalist today, and he was fastest in eliminations with an 11.467 at 120.27 mph.

Jim Lane earned the Napa Auto Parts/LACR trophy for best first round reaction time with a .001 reaction time. Ron Posen earned the first round closest to dial trophy with a 13.423 run on a 13.30 dial in.

Congratulations to first round winners Phil Reese, Jim Lane, and Ron Posen.

We will have another race or two at LACR before they close. The date will be posted when it is scheduled. It looks like an afternoon/night race in July. Thanks again to Bernie and the crew at LACR, and to Dave Dowdell for coordinating everything for the WCCC.
