Mike Villeneuve Wins the May 21 WCCC event(8)!

Sunday May 21 the WCCC returned to our home track, LACR. We were able to get in 3 trials and the race before the rain came down in Palmdale. The good part of the cloudy day was the temperatures stayed in the mid 70s.

Mike Villeneuve from Fallbrook, California won his second event in a row and third 2006 event in his magnetic red C5. Yes Mike, we are all out to get you now. Mike took the A & A Corvette winner’s trophy with a 13.138 ET on a 13.20 dial, his opponent had red lit at the light. Mike also took home the Vapor Trail Vettes Closest to Dial trophy for his 13.210 run on a 13.20 dial in the first round. Mike also took over the 2006 points lead with the win. Congratulations – Mike!

Bruce Santourian returned to race with the WCCC and won the Cormier Chevrolet sponsored Runner-Up trophy. Bruce also beat out Robert Piroumian for low ET in time trials with a 10.662ET at 129.934mph. Bruce was also good enough to bring his tuner/builder - Kushan Peykarian. Kushan is responsible for the rebuild/upgrade to Bruce’s C5. Congratulations to Kushan in opening his shop, Excelsior Motorsports in San Diego (Peykarian@cox.net or (619) 454-7787). Kushan has raced with the WCCC before and we all hope to see Kushan and his 63 corvette at the next race.

Congratulations to our two semi-finalists, repeat racer Lloyd Miyashiro in his Blue C5 and WCCC racer Javier Navarro in his blue C6.

Rochelle Dowdell from Lancaster, California took the LACR/NAPA Auto Parts sponsored Best Reaction Time trophy with

ongratulations to our first round winners Henry Mynatt and Rocky Zarillo. Thanks to Rocky from bringing his wife Beverly to join us for the day. It was good to see Janet and Mike Glenn of the Vapor Trail Vettes back with Janet racing their Le Mans Commemorative edition Z06. We look forward to seeing Janet and Mike in Bakersfield in a few weeks. And, for those that want to know, Robert Piroumian of Newbury Park, California ran a very respectable 11.60 at 123.49mph in the first round of eliminations, and may have had faster times during the day.
