Saturday, June 24 was a night race. Temperatures were still in the low 90s by race time, it was windy and a nearby brush fire made for an eerie atmosphere at twilight. With sand blowing across the track, and a broken car dropping fluids early, the WCCC watched as other racers were crashing into guardrails, losing control and crossing the center line one after the other. It was two hours before most of the WCCC got our second time trial. By then, track management was running singles only, and another bracket racing group decided not to run at all. By about 8pm the wind turned into a nice breeze, the brush fire was out, and the sand was under control to get everything back to normal.

Dave Dowdell, in his blue C4, won the Cormier Chevrolet sponsored Runner-Up trophy. Dave prevailed over semi finalist Mark Davis in his C6 on a double breakout. Dave also took the WCCC Closest to Dial trophy in the first round.

Congratulations to our other semi finalist, Henry Mynatt in his C5 Z06, who also won the LACR/NAPA Auto Parts sponsored Best Reaction Time trophy with a .039 RT.

Congratulations to our other first round winners Jim Lane, Phil Reese, and first time racer Jason McDonald. Jim earned a first round bye with a .014 RT in time trials.

Robert Piroumian ran a 12.109 at 119.76 mph under tough track conditions for the low ET in the first round of eliminations.
