Saturday, October 29th was a clear, breezy racing day in the California high desert, with the temperatures in the 70s. Pretty much perfect weather for racing. Dave Dowdell prevailed over Gary Combs in the final contest, with Gary red lighting by .011. Dave ran his blue auto 85 coupe, Gary his silver auto 03 coupe.

Dave earned the A & A Corvette Performance trophy for his fifth win of the season. The most exciting race of the day, and most meaningful, was Dave's first race against Mike Villeneuve. Dave ran a 15.324 on a 15.30 dial with a .050 RT to Mike's 13.030 on a 13.00 dial and a .063 RT. Dave was able to prevail by only .019 seconds against Mike. With his fifth win of the season Dave locks up his first place finish in the WCCC for 2005. Congratulations, Dave.

Gary Combs won the A & A Corvette Performance sponsored Runner-Up trophy. sponsored Runner-Up trophy over semi-finalist Al Carrington and his gold red C4. Al also earned the NAPA Auto Parts/Los Angeles County Raceway Best Reaction Time trophy with a .014 RT in the first round. The trophy is awarded to the racer with the best first round reaction time.

Our other semi-finalist, Bernie Catalan, along with Al, earned Vette Magazine subscriptions for their efforts. Bernie raced his black C5. This was Bernie's first race with the WCCC. Bernie speaks seven languages and plans on becoming a police office after getting his criminal justice degree.

The Closest to Dial trophy, sponsored by Vapor Trail Vettes in Santa Maria California, was won by Dave Dowdell for his 15.324 ET on a 15.30 dial. This also earned Dave a bye run in the next round.

More congratulations to first round winners Rocky Zarillo, Rochelle Dowdell, and Jay Eshbach.

It was great to see Mike and Alice Villeneuve back at the track. Bruce Santourian, one of the original WCCC racers, returned after a long spell. We were also joined by first time WCCC racers Rocky Zarillo, Robert Brown, Jorge Lozano, and Bernie Catalan. We look forward to seeing Kushan Peykarian back at the races with his Z06. Today Kushan brought a beautiful, highly modified, 63 split window to the track, a 9 second car.

We all want to say welcome back to the U.S. to Brian Cunningham, who was in the Persian Gulf until just recently.
