Saturday, June 11 was a clear, sunny racing day in the California high desert, and with the temperature rising quickly on the track into the 90s combined with gusty winds made actual ETs almost a half second off dials in some cases.
Dave Dowdell prevailed over Phil Reese in a close final contest. Dave earned the A & A Corvette Performance trophy for his third win of the season and his sixth overall Corvette Challenge event win. Dave ran a 15.563 on a 15.42 dial with a .048 RT to Phil's 12.945 on a 12.67 dial and a .019 RT. The WCCC has not had a three-time event winner in a single season until now, and we still have at least three more races to go. In addition, Dave extends his lead in the Championship points with his win. Congratulations, Dave.
Phil Reese's 383 C3 recovered from a dramatic carburetor fire in the April Famoso race, and Phil came back well-rested from an Alaska cruise with wife Linda to win the A & A Corvette Performance sponsored Runner-Up trophy. Phil earned a bye into the final with a win over Henry Mynatt and his Z06.
Rochelle Dowdell, 2004 WCCC Champion, 2004 WCCC Champion, was the semifinalist. Rochelle also had the best reaction time in time trials with a sizzling 0.002, earning the first round elimination bye run.
Jim Lane took the NAPA Auto Parts/Los Angeles County Raceway Best Reaction Time trophy with a .013 RT in the first round. The trophy is awarded to the racer with the best first round reaction time.
The Closest to Dial trophy, sponsored by Vapor Trail Vettes in Santa Maria California, went to Dave Dowdell his 15.440 ET on a 15.39 dial.
