It was a beautiful day for drag racing for the 5th scheduled WCCC event of the season at Famoso Raceway, just outside of Bakersfield. We did however have to compete with the Super Chevy show at Pomona, and the Street Rod Nationals at the Bakersfield fairgrounds on Saturday April 30th.
The overall event winner was the 2004 WCCC Champion Rochelle Dowdell in her 2003 automatic. Rochelle went four rounds, including a semi-final bye run, to earn the A & A Corvette Performance sponsored Winner’s trophy and gift certificate for her winning effort. Rochelle also ran closest to her dial-in for the 1st round of eliminations with an 0.014 (13.424 on a 13.41 dial-in). Rochelle the received the Vapor Trail Vettes sponsored Closest to Dial-In trophy for her 1st round performance. Congrats Rochelle.
Two time 2005 WCCC event winner Gary Combs was the runner-up in his 2003 automatic coupe and earned the A & A Corvette Performance ponsored Runner-Up trophy and gift certificate. Gary’s consistent performance keeps him as the 2005 points leader.

Congratulations to semi-finalist Dave Dowdell who earned a Vette Magazine gift certificate for his efforts today. Dave also had the best reaction time of the first round of eliminations with a 0.047 second R/T, and earned the Best R/T trophy, sponsored by the WCCC this month.
Low ET for the eliminatioins went to Kathy McSwain with an 11.711 @ 119.56 MPH with her Electron Blue Z06. Earlier in time trials, before the starting line traction began to go away, Kathy had run even quicker at 11.36@120.67MPH.
Congratulations to Jerry Malcolm for his perfect 0.000 reaction time in time trials, which earned him a first round solo run since we had an odd number of cars for the first round. In that same time trial, Jerry was paired up with Rochelle Dowdell, who also had a super reaction time of 0.002, just missing out on that first round solo.
The participants can add their own perspective of the days activities at their convenience. The next WCCC event is scheduled for Saturday, May 21st at
LACR. Gate open time is 7:30AM.
