Saturday, November 19th was a clear, mild, and sunny racing day in the California high desert, with the temperatures in the 60s. Great weather for racing at our home track, Los Angeles County Raceway. We shared the track with the American Nostalgia Racing Association, which runs pre-1979 front engine dragsters, fuel altereds, and hot rods. In addition, Pontiac Drag Days was there again. There were over 400 cars at the track, including our 14 Corvettes.
To cap a dominating season, Dave Dowdell prevailed over Jim Lane in an excellent final contest. Dave, in his blue C4, left first with a .058 RT and a 15.20 dial. Jim, in his dark gray C4, dialed in a 14.85 and took off in pursuit with a .028 RT. It was too close to call all the way, and it ended with a double breakout. Jim crossed the line first, but went 14.705. Dave broke out by .008 to take the win.
Dave had a perfect season with no first round losses, in addition to his remarkable six wins out of ten races in 2005. Dave earned the A & A Corvette Performance trophy for his capstone win of the season.
Jim Lane won the A & A Corvette Performance sponsored Runner-Up trophy over semi-finalist Henry Mynatt from Tracy, CA and his silver Z06.
Our other semi-finalist, Al Carrington, along with Henry Mynatt, earned Simpson Racing Gift certificates for their efforts. Al raced his red-gold C4. Al took the Closest to Dial trophy, sponsored by Vapor Trail Vettes in Santa Maria California, for his 14.409 ET on a 14.40 dial. Mike Villenueve ran a 13.077 on a 13.07 dial in the same race against Al, but lost to Al by .009 seconds for our closest race of the day.
Dave Dowdell earned the NAPA Auto Parts/Los Angeles County Raceway Best Reaction Time trophy with a .035 RT in the first round. The trophy is awarded to the racer with the best first round reaction time.
More congratulations to first round winners Javier Navarro and Mark Yapelli.
Bruce Santourian returned with his red Z06, and beat a highly modified Pontiac hot rod straight up during time trials with an ET in the 10s. Kushan Peykarian, returned with his own Z06, a beautiful black one with twin turbos. Kushan ran a 10.933 at 129.36.
