The overall event winner was Gary Combs in his 2003 automatic coupe. Gary earned the A & A Corvette Performance (formerly A & A Corvette Specialties) sponsored Winner trophy and gift certificate for his winning effort Gary was also the lucky recipient of a semi-final bye run. Earning the A & A Corvette Performance sponsored Runner-Up trophy and gift certificate was Mike Villeneuve in an 02 automatic coupe. Gary edged out Mike in a great final round. Gary ran a 0.042 RT, 14.104@100.186 on a 14.10 dial to Mikes breakout 0.053 RT, 12.973@104.266 on a 12.98 dial. Mike also had the best reaction time of the first round of eliminations with a super 0.007 second R/T. Mike was cutting good lights all afternoon, including a blistering 0.001 light to my snoozing 0.141 in the third round. Congrats to Gary and Mike.
Congratulations to semi-finalist Jim Lane who earned the Simpson Racing gift certificate for his efforts today. Low ET of the day goes to Anthony Galati from Lake Havasu City with a 10.046@ an obviously ‘off the throttle’ MPH of 106.07 with his stealth black ‘90. Anthony may have run quicker today, but I only had the race results from eliminations. Hats off to Anthony who also raced in Phoenix yesterday, but blew his transmission on his first time trial run of the day, then spent most of the night rebuilding it, and then drove five hours this morning to make it to LACR for our WCCC event. We’re happy to have you racing with us Anthony.
We had some new faces today as well as the regular cast, and it was a great start to the new season. I would like to welcome first time WCCC racers Diane Branham (‘00 Auto. Vert.), Greg Strother (‘99 Auto Vert.), Mareque Ireland (’91 Auto Coupe), Brian Oddy (’97 Auto. Coupe), Wes Migletz (‘59 manual hardtop Vert.), Kathy McSwain (’02 Z06), Janet Glenn (’04 Z06), and Michael Glenn (’04 Z06).
Also had a visit from our sponsor Andy & Melissa from A & A Corvette Performance, with his Black C6 R&D car. Andy ran 12.03 @120MPH. Follow link to Andy’s track experience in the C6 Tech section of The Corvette Forum. Thanks for all you do to support our WCCC activities. Hope you can make it out to join us again soon.
Hopefully, the prime players will add their own perspective of the days activities. The next WCCC event is scheduled for February 27 at LACR. Tentative gate open time is 7:30AM, but stay tuned for final details coming soon. Also I'll get pics out as soon as I can...It's been a long day.
