2004 Event 9 Results
Winner: Rochelle Dowdell
Runner-Up: Phil Reese
Semi-Finalist: Dave Dowdell
Best Reaction Time: Dave Dowdell .098
Low E.T.: Al Adams 12.868
The WCCC once again had the LACR track all to ourselves for the ninth event of the 2004 season, sharing it only with time-only & test & tune. It was small crowd due to the Pacific Division Summit ET Finals going on at Famoso in Bakersfield. It was a beautiful day for racing and there were opportunities for quite a few runs for everyone.

Rochelle Dowdell drove her red 2003 automatic coupe through the field today to take the A & A Corvette Specialties winner's trophy & gift certificate. Rochelle's road to victory included a sizzling Semi-Final round 0.001 second reaction time win over the season points leader going into this event, her husband Dave Dowdell (yep, that's me). Rochelle's Semi-Final win over Dave was a very close race, with Rochelle running the 0.001 R/T & 13.909 on a 13.80 dial @100.336 MPH to her husband's losing 0.063 R/T & 15.404 on a 15.33 dial. The margin of victory was only 0.027 seconds, and clinches bragging rites in the Dowdell household for Rochelle until the final race in November. Rochelle's event win also had to go though the winner of the previous two WCCC events, Phil Reese and his black '73 automatic coupe. Rochelle stopped Phil's run at a three-peat in the final round with her 0.201 R/T & 13.992 on a 13.80 dial to Phil's 0.253 R/T & 14.509 on a 13.70 dial. Rochelle's win puts her in a tie for the season points lead with husband Dave. I should remind you that it was Rochelle that gunned down Dave in the first round of the WCCC 2003 final event last November, forcing a season points tie and a one run shootout for the 2003 championship between Dave Dowdell and Donna Walton (King).

Phil's run to the Final round included a first round 13.918 on a 13.91dial @97.14 and a Semi-Final round bye into the Finals. Phil took home the A & A Corvette Specialties sponsored runner-up trophy & gift certificate for his efforts.

Congratulations to semi-finalist Dave Dowdell, driving the blue '85 automatic coupe who was tree'd in the Semi by his wife and eventual event winner Rochelle Dowdell. Dave received a VETTE magazine sponsored semi-final round gift certificate for his efforts this month. Dave earned a first round bye with the best reaction time during time trials of 0.017. Dave also took home the West Coast Corvettes sponsored Best Reaction Time Trophy and gift certificate, awarded for the best RT of the first round of eliminations, with a 0.098.

Al Adams had the Low ET for the day of 12.868 on a 12.87 dial @105.16 with his red 2000 automatic hardtop convertible, in a close 0.002 breakout loss in the first round.

The WCCC welcomes new participants Bonniegay Bacon driving a ghost-flamed blue 95 automatic coupe, and Donnie and Rosie Stevens driving a black 2004 6-spd coupe.

The WCCC thanks the track and tower crew at LACR. Track owner and C6 driver Bernie Longjohn was forced to run the staging lanes this week, due to minimum available crew, as most were supporting the big event at Bakersfield. I also want to give a big thanks from the WCCC, to all of the participants & families that continue to come out to the track and support our events.
