The WCCC returned to our home track at LACR for the seventh event of the 2004 season. The track was basically ours alone, with time-only and test & tune joining us. Even with the prospects of a light crowd, only the most dedicated of WCCC drivers showed up on Saturday for the July 2004 edition of the WCCC, as LACR temperatures danced around 100F at gate opening time. The DA was 7800 ft just prior to time trials, and dropped to around 5800 ft. before the end of eliminations. I can only guess that the heat was the main reason for a less than normal WCCC turnout. I’m expecting a much better showing for the next event in September.

Phil Reese went four rounds in his ’73 C3 automatic coupe to take the A & A Corvette Specialties winner's trophy & gift certificate in a great final over Rochelle Dowdell. Phil’s winning final round effort was 0.550 R/T, running 14.230@98.56 on a 14.10 dial, to Rochelle’s 13.990@99.58 on a 13.88 dial. Phil had previously campaigned a Top Alcohol dragster in his earlier racing career, and had at one time held a top speed record at the U.S. Nationals. Rochelle came in to this event tied for second place season points with Ron Stark. Rochelle took home the A & A Corvette Specialties sponsored runner-up trophy & gift certificate for her efforts. Rochelle’s great performance puts her in a tie for the points lead with her husband, Dave…me. It was another great WCCC event final by both Phil and Rochelle.

Congratulations to semi-finalist Gary Combs, driving an ’03 automatic coupe. Gary received a Simpson Racing sponsored semi-final round gift certificate for his efforts this month.

Jerry Huck took home the West Coast Corvettes sponsored Best Reaction Time Trophy and gift certificate, awarded for the best RT of the first round of eliminations, with a 0.523, narrowly edging out his first round competitor Ron Stark with the next best RT of 0.543. Jerry also had the Low ET for the day of 12.553.

The WCCC also would like to welcome our newest competitor, Linda Reese driving a 2000 Magnetic Red C5 ‘Vert. Linda and today’s winner Phil, make up the second WCCC husband & wife racing team, along with today’s runner-up Rochelle Dowdell, and myself.

The WCCC thanks the track and tower crew at LACR. As usual, the event went off without a hitch. I also want to give a big thanks from the WCCC, to all of the participants & families that braved the heat and came out to the track.

Next WCCC race is an afternoon event at LACR in Palmdale on Saturday, September 18th. The event schedule is as follows:

The LACR tech card/entry fees are $20.00 for car & driver, and the WCCC registration fees remain at $15.00. We hope to see everyone at the track…
