The WCCC went on the road to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the May WCCC event. Nat Hodgson from Las Vegas prevailed to take the A & A Corvette Specialties winner's trophy & gift certificate in a great final over Al Adams. Nat ran a 13.765 on a 13.70 dial to edge Al on a 12.727 vs. 12.74 for a.013 breakout by Al. Al took home the A & A Corvette Specialties sponsored runner-up trophy & gift certificate for his efforts. The finals were closely fought. Great show by both Nat & Al.

To get to the finals, Nat beat our own Mike Villenueve in the closest race of the night, where Mike broke out by 0.005 against Nat & Mike's identical reaction times. Al edged WCCC 2003 champion Dave Dowdell on Al's terrific 12.746 on a 12.74 dial to Dave's 15.241 breakout on a 15.25 dial. Very close semi-final races.

Congratulations to semi-finalists Dave Dowdell and Mike Villenueve, who each received a Simpson Racing sponsored semi-final round gift certificate. Mike also took home the West Coast Corvettes sponsored Best Reaction Time Trophy and gift certificate, awarded for the best RT of the first round of eliminations, with a 0.506. Nat Hodges

Congratulations also go out to the remaining first round winners Carl Corbett from Henderson, Nevada; James Ranney from Las Vegas; Jack Sweet from Mission Viejo; and Rochelle Dowdell from Lancaster. Jack Sweet had the best RT of the time trials with a super 0.501 getting the chance for the potential bye run in the first round of eliminations, but in the end, there were an even number of cars, so Jack had to earn his first round win the hard way. Pat McSwain from Corona CA had the low ET during eliminations, running 11.967 at 117.04 in his Z06 in the first round.

It was really great racing all evening on a superbly prepared track … thanks to the track and tower crew at LVMS. And in contrast to our last event we only had 3 red light fouls out of 15 races. In addition, only in Las Vegas would you see a 9-second/133 mph snowmobile competing with the motorcycle class.

A big thanks from the WCCC, to all of the participants that joined us at LVMS. We had a good showing from the Las Vegas area folks, with eleven cars showing up to join us. The WCCC had nine drivers make the trek from Southern California to participate as well. Also, big thanks go out to the Las Vegas Corvette Association (LVCA), for their support of our LVMS event. Next WCCC race is a morning/afternoon event at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield on Saturday, June 5th, with gates opening at 9:00AM, tech inspection at 10:00AM, time trials at 11:00AM, and eliminations starting around 1:00 or 1:30PM. The Famoso tech card/entry fees are $30.00 for car & driver, and the WCCC registration fees remain at $15.00. We hope to see everyone at the track…
